Other cities and street performance
To inform me better about street performance I want to go in another city. So I decided to connect my research with the visit for this weekend of a friend of mine in Brighton.
For my planning I went on Saturday to Bournemouth to look if I can find some street performers and indeed there have been two street performers: a band of two and a solo performer. I asked both of them for information's, and already the next day I got an email from one of them!
The second band didn't respond me yet.
Curly the busker
Hi Anna
I'm the guy you met in The Square last Sat. My
name is Paul but known as Curly :-)
My story is very simple one.
I contracted bowel cancer in 2007 and had a
major operation in 2007. The cancer came back two years later and I had to have
4 wedges taken out of my lungs. It also came back a third time in my lungs but
this was simply burned out.
It IS a very life changing experience, and for
me, given that I appear to be beating it, I started to revalue my life and one
of the things I did was learn a life skill and that was learning to play a
guitar. I seem to got reasonable at playing chords, so started singing too.
One thing you like to do after an experience
like mine is to put 'something back' to the people who looked after me. So, I
decided to busk for Macmillan Cancer Charity. Why not? lucky for me I'm not
short of money to have to busk for a living, but I could do something useful -
with the little talent I have ! :-)
I started playing in Bournemouth end of the
summer and try to get down there when i can and the weather is fine of course
:-)
Hope this story is OK for you
Best wishes
Paul aka Curly
I was really happy when I got this letter. After school I wanna be a journalist and so I already had my first story! I find the story of Curly the Busker very interesting, it made me thoughtful.
And isn't that what media should do?

Logo and name for my magazine
When I had decided about which music genre my magazine would be I was looking straight away for a name. The name should have something in common with my theme, so the customer can recongnise about what the music magazine is.
After names like "Busker", "musique dans les rues" or "real life music" I got the idea of the simple name 'street'
I like this name because it is easy to remember and it is the main theme of my magazine.
As soon as I had the name of the magazine I started drawing the logo. I decided to write the two 'e' in the middle of the taller than the other letters. The two 'e' stand for entertainment everywhere, which is I think the best description for street performance.
Now I'm thinking about the colors, I have tried to use different colors and styles.

Except Media Studies I am studying also French at Poole High. Our theme in French is “la publicité” (the advertisement) Once we were speaking about the different colors and how they react on the customer, I think that can help me for the decisions of the main colors and the colors of the logo.
Blue represents
peace, calm, tranquility and freshness.
Purple
represents mystery, romance and royalty.
White
represents purity, balance and innocence. It makes us think also about calm,
peace and tranquility.
Red
represents passion, temptation, emotion, strength, power, force, luxury and
energy.
Yellow makes
us think about joy, energy and dynamism.
Beige,
brown represents the nature, rustic, soundness, warmth and comfort.
Pink
represents innocence, sweetness and romance.
Orange
represents boldness, intelligence, trust but also distrust.
Green
stands for the nature, happiness, harmony, success, energy, optimism, youth,
calm and tranquility.
Black
represents elegance, wealth and power.
I am not sure which style I should choose for my logo. I would like to take a logo with the color green. In my opinion green symbolize best the lifestyle which the customers connect with buskers.
My problem is that I want to ask a real busker for my main picture on the front cover and also for the article inside.
I will take a picture of a busker when he is performing, because I think a picture from a photo shoot is not as genuine as a picture of a life performance on the street.
So I do not know yet the colors and the location of my picture, but I would like that the main picture matches with the logo.
I prefer for my magazine a clear and structured layout, the customer should easily recogniye what is it about. I will use a sans serif fond, serif fond would be too posh for these kind of magazine.

Final logo
When I had done my pictures I recognized that the planned idea for my logo would not work because it seemed to ... and... So I decided change it, I still hold on on the two small e's. I also wanted to keep the subtitle entertainment.everywhere.
Originally I had planned to make the masthead as a rectangular block at the top of the front cover, but finally I changed that because it wasn't suitable with my picture, so I made the masthead on the left corner. The subtitle "entertainment.everywhere" is now as a cover line under the masthead.
I colored the masthead in pink, according to my picture. The masthead of this magazine remains in every issue just the color changes.

I wrote two articles for my magazine: one for the double page and one for the contents page.
The article on the contents page is a true story of a man I met on the street.
The other article is an interview with my cover star Desh. It speaks about his career.

That was my plan for the magazine before I took the picture, when I had the pictures I changed nearly everything.

Article
Before I had my final magazine I tried to do another magazine but I realized that it was not good enogh for the final products. The pictures were not from a high quality and I did not think about different camera angles.

Which needs will be fulfilled with your
magazine how? Why?
Self-actualization: I think with the use of pictures I can people inspire and keep them informed. Also with the interviews the customers could continue to develop themselves. If I will use the story of Curly the Busker the reader may think about his life and what he could do more about it, maybe he would also think about to do some charity.
Esteem: I think the customers can achieve esteem when they read the different stories in the magazine; some of them might help them and give them motivation too. Often music magazines write about singers and bands who failed but didn't give up and then succeeded.
Social: I think people are able to recognize themselves in the characters of my magazine because street performers are normal people whom we meet every day on the streets. They seem more human than celebs and there is not an ideology about them; they have a life like everyone else.
How I got the idea to make a magazine about street performance
When I analysed my questionnaire (->research) I realized that most people
prefer different things about music magazine, I could not really find an agreement in most points. So
I decided to do something total different. I hope that I can reach in this way a bigger
target group.
The problem was that nearly about all music genres exists a magazine.
The problem was that nearly about all music genres exists a magazine.
The final idea came to me when I walked across the streets
and saw a busker. Why not making a magazine about street performance?
Nearly every day we get confronted with street performance,
but we know rarely about it. In fact for most people it is the only music they
hear playing live. Some of famous music stars like Rod Stewart, Paul Simon, the
Kelly Family and Aura Dione were street musicians before they started their
career.
